21nd February 2018, Institute of Advanced Technology, - The Occupational Safety & Health Committee (OSH) of the Institute of Advanced Technology has organized the 'Laboratory Safety Talk and Card Activation Day 2018'. A total of 53 participants attended the program which was held for two days.
The program was initiated by a briefing on the ITMA OSH Committee by ITMA OSH Deputy Chairman, Mr. Md. Ali Rani. The lectures were divided into two sessions, which are theoretical sessions where speakers who are experts in the field of laboratory safety have been invited. The lectures were delivered by Dr. Jaafar bin Abdullah from Faculty of Science UPM with title of Safety Symbols and How to Manage the Chemicals. The next slot was delivered by Mrs Afida Miskam, a representative from OSH Office of UPM and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Abdullah the Deputy Director of ITMA. Both of these slots titled of Best Practice in Laboratory and Compliance Laboratory Safety Rules.
The participants were made up of researchers and students of ITMA. The aim of the program is to provide exposure and knowledge of safety in laboratories, especially to students and ITMA researchers. This talk is important for expanding and strengthening the knowledge of students and researchers on safety and regulation in the working space, especially in laboratories. It is hoped that this program will prevent any accident in the laboratory from happening and provide benefits not only to students but also ITMA researchers.
